I LOOKED TO THE TREES
Dear Friends
I recently attended a gathering of the 24th Annual Big Scrub Rainforest Day at Rocky Creek Dam.
Together with Venerable Pannyavaro from Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery, we had been invited by Lismore Council to give a presentation to participants on Mindfulness and Coming to Our Senses in the Forest. We spoke about Mindfully Being in Nature, Letting Go of the Ways of the World, Finding a piece of Peace in Nature and the Therapeutic Value of Spending Time in the Forest.
We Mindfully walked in the Rainforest and sat in Silent Meditation looking out to the beautiful Rocky Creek Dam. People were very receptive and appreciative of the shared occasion, nourished by spending this Mindful Time in Nature amongst the Flora and Fauna.
Certainly, spending time in Nature, particularly a Forest, reminds and returns us to something fundamental and perennial within Life and within Ourselves. I certainly encourage us all to spend a little time each day to connect into some place or patch of Nature.
If we are to survive as a species and maintain our health and humanity we need to be wise, to protect and preserve the natural environment. The care and conservation of the natural environment begins with an Understanding and Appreciation of Nature and the Realisation that we are Nature!
If we care about ourselves, we need to care about Nature.
There is much that we can learn about ourselves if we spend time in Nature; look, listen, sense and feel into Nature.
My verse below is inspired from my time in Nature amongst the Trees.
Metta – Kind Regards
John B.
I LOOKED TO THE TREES
I looked to the Trees;
A word from the Wise;
Natures Universal Truths;
Are often in disguise!
The Tree’s Silent Message;
Shouted across the Land;
A potent, powerful;
Yet Peaceful Command!
Be Calm and Know;
‘Things will change and won’t last;
All that does arise;
With the passage of time, will again be Past!’
The Trees stable and calm;
Majestically stood;
This Wisdom to learn and use;
If only we would!
I looked to the Trees
Our tall and sure Friends;
A reminder to us all;
That to Them all Life depends!
