Is It Peace?
Is it Peace?
Is it Peace that we seek?
Fundamentally and Ultimately, at the end of the day, at the end of our life, and everywhere and when in between; is it Peace that we seek?
Maybe!
So, what then is Peace?
Peace is a calm contentment, a quite joy, an ease and fulfillment.
Peace may be experienced in the external environment, but fundamentally is a quality and state of mind – heart (Citta).
Peace could be said to occur on three levels.
1. Peace is the experience of relief, ease and respite from that which is upsetting, distressing, disturbing and destructive. Here our Peace could be a place, a retreat, a refuge or sanctuary. Peace here could be at least a respite from the internal or external battle. This is Peace ‘from’ something.
2. Peace is the calm, composure of equanimity; in being at Peace with the issues, the illness, the difficulties of life. This Peace, in being at Peace with things, is the result of exercising and engaging Psychological / Spiritual Virtues (Paramita), such as Mindfulness, Patience, Compassion, Forgiveness, Energy and Equanimity for example. This level of Peace means that we can be at Peace with what is, without having to find Peace in being away from what is.
3. The third and highest level of Peace is the Peace of being the Peace; a Peace Being, (a Santi Satta!)
This level of Peace is the result of ‘realising reality’ and being beyond the drama of the psychological egoic self. Here our mind is not foolishly identified with or as the limiting factor of the psychological egoic self.
This is the Peace of the Free Mind-Heart, the Awakened or Enlightened Mind-Heart (Citta).
This is the Peace and Happiness of the Buddha and all those that have realised Ultimate Truth, Reality, Freedom and are now being Peace.
Maybe we could say, that as human beings we all do seek happiness, but the Real Happiness, that we fundamentally and Ultimately seek and long for, is the Happiness of Peace.
The Happiness of Real Peace is joy and contentment, freedom and compassion, and results in a life lived wisely.
Our life, this life, ‘now life’; is the journey to realise, find and fulfil the mission of Real Peace.
So, is it Peace that we seek?
• It is Peace.
• Peace it is!
