OF WRACK AND RUIN
Dear Friends
As the wisdom of the Buddha points out, we often mistake the Unreal for the Real and see the Real as the Unreal. We can also mistake the Untrue for the Truth and see the Truth as Untrue!
Why is this so?
Maybe because in our lack of Mindful Awareness, we are distracted; our minds clarity is distorted and our mental capacity is diminished!
It can be no wonder then that we become distressed and upset and fall into suffering and sorrow.
One significant Truth that lies at the heart of Reality is the fact of change and decay that creates uncertainty and causes things to be unsatisfactory.
This year, like the season, like the month, like the week, like the day, hour, minute and moment is ending!
The Truth of Reality is that all things that arise will cease; that all things that come into being will at some time cease to be. This is the case for all things both great and small, wonderful and woeful, happy or horrendous! It appears that our Real Peace and Profound Happiness is found not in things that change but in the Realisation of the Freedom through alignment with the Truth of Ultimate Reality!
My verse below expresses the problem and pain of things that change.
John B.
OF WRACK AND RUIN
Of damage and destruction;
Of division and dissolution;
Of disease and decay;
Like the ending of the day!
Of uncertainty and insecurity;
Of the insubstantial and unsubstantial;
Of omission and lack of precision;
Like the source of indecision!
Of the unfounded and ungrounded;
Of the unformed and deformed;
Of injustice and the unjust;
Like dirt, grime and layered dust!
Of the corrupted and complicated;
Of the contracted and contaminated;
Of the constricted and the caught;
Like something important that leads to naught!
Of the less than and lacking;
Of the lazy or languishing;
Of the limited and lost;
Like things wasted at great cost!
Of the stress and struggle;
Of the strain and suffering;
Of the sadness and sorrow;
Like no hope in the tomorrow!
Of the agitation and angst;
Of the aversion and anger;
Of the anguish and anxiety;
Like the disease of a society!
Of the distress and despair;
Of the distraction and distortion;
Of the delusion and depression;
Like the repression and oppression!
Of the wrack and the ruin;
Of the rust and the rot;
Of all things that change;
The Truth of Reality does not!
