You are Remembered, more or less …..
Recent reflections around the experience of Dementia, Alzheimer’s and the process of aging, inspired these reflections regarding the fundamental nature of the self.
You are Remembered – more or less!
This I, this you, this me, this we;
This psychological seeming self;
This apparent appearing person;
Is merely a collection of memory moments.
Whilst this I, this you, this me, this we,
might also be made of ideas and plans, posed for the future;
for the most part, the greater part;
We are the remembered moments of this life time.
This I, this you, this me, this we;
Is a collection of construed, constructed, conditioned,
Perceptions, memories, moments of mind;
Like beads strung along the string of time.
Sometimes, most times, over the passage of time;
These beads of memory and remembering;
these elements and arrangements of me,
Fall from that string.
When this happens, the memories of me begin to no longer quite connect,
To create the apparent concrete sense of self, of someone;
a separate someone;
that the mind makes as me.
Like glistening golden beads of dew on the grass,
With the developing day, they disappear forever.
Those moments of memories of life-time had;
Dissolved and disappeared, gone into nowhere.
Where are you now!
